Sonarworkers target is based off of the Sennheiser HD 650 Frequency response and is largely the reason why I originally bought the Sennheiser HD 600 headphones early on in my headphone research. Little did I know, the only reason why the Sennheiser HD 650 looked so flat on their graphs is because their target was literally the Sennheiser HD 650 frequency response!

So basically Sonarworks' scheme was to find out what was considered the flattest headphone out of the top name brand headphone manufacturers ie Sennheiser, AKG, Beyerdynamic, etc. This is an easy task to do since most headphone salesmen and hustlers online promote the Sennheiser HD 650 as being flat and the best to get for a neutral natural tone. They occasionally rip it apart though in order to peddle new products and other brands. Keep 'em confused and stupid to part them from their money is the name of the game. We can see from the graph that their target mirrors the Sennheiser HD 650.

Here we can see one of their many delusional victims looking for "FLAT HEADPHONES!!! I NEED FLAT HEADPHONES!!!" target audience.

Sadly, early on I was one of these victims too. After this experience though I was able to realize I wanted more bass and treble. So using their graphs, I was able to narrow in on the Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro. My main complaint with the Sennheiser headphones was a lack of bass and treble clarity which is shown to be relieved by their Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro measurement:

Funnily enough I came from Philips SHP9500 which sounds somewhat similar to Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro but has less smooth treble and no bass boost:

Sonarworks didn't just stop at EQing the Sennheiser HD 650 if you haven't noticed. They have measurements for everything in order to sell people their software. Guess what their scheme was. To EQ every headphone to sound like the Sennheiser HD 650 by inverting their frequency response with EQ:

This insanity of EQing every headphone to sound the same is also mirrored by Oratory1990 trying to EQ every headphone to the Harman target. Luckily, the frequency response measurements are used by me and others to find actual good headphones rather than a way to EQ every headphone to sound the same by these bozos. The origins of other targets aren't much more scientific or better.

Sean Olive admitting Sonarworks is using a biased curve to make the headphone look flat to fuel the HD600 series flat lie:
